Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 technical Features
The Odyssey Neo G9 has a 49-inch screen. The screen of this novelty uses a “carpet” backlight Mini LED, as in the latest Samsung Neo QLED TVs. Another advantage of this monitor is the wide viewing angles vertically and horizontally (up to 178). It is worth saying that the screen in this device is curved by 1000R. In addition, the aspect ratio of the screen is 32: 9. It makes it equally convenient for multimedia entertainment and work. The manufacturer has reported a typical display brightness of 420 nits. In turn, the peak brightness reaches 2000 nits. The new gaming monitor also received support for HDR 10 Plus and HDR technologies. In addition, it supports 2048 local dimming zones.
The gaming monitor Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 received support for a resolution of 5120 × 1440 pixels.
It ensures the transmission of images with a high level of detail. In addition, the panel of this device supports a refresh rate of 240Hz. In turn, the response time is only 1 ms. It’s also worth mentioning that this monitor supports NVIDIA G-Sync as well as AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. The communication panel of this device includes HDMI 2.1 with VRR. In addition, buyers of this monitor can use the VESA 100 × 100 mounts for wall mounting.
Installation
The installation and construction of the Odyssey Neo G9 are very similar to the previous model. Preferably with the help of another person, the 114.95 x 53.72 x 41.83 cm large and 11.9 kg heavy display is lifted out of the no less bulky packaging. The next step is to assemble the stand, which weighs 2.6 kg.
The screw required for it is integrated directly into the underside of the stand and can be fastened correctly without a screwdriver thanks to the fold-up holding device.
Once assembled, the Odyssey Neo G9 has an impressive total weight of 14.5 kg. Together with the wide base, this ensures a good hold, but it means that the device is difficult to transport. Nevertheless: Compared to last year’s 16.7 kg model, Samsung has slimmed down the Neo G9 by 2.2 kg.
Connections and Equipment
As with the Odyssey G9, the cable bay is on the Odyssey Neo G9 (viewed from the rear) to the right of the circular central area. And here is the first significant change that catches your eye, which should appeal to console gamers in particular. While the Odyssey G9 only has one HDMI 2.0 input, you now have access to two HDMI 2.1 interfaces. So two consoles can be connected at the same time without any problems.
Thanks to HDMI 2.1 certification, you also benefit from today’s important features such as VRR (“Variable Refresh Rate”), QMS (“Quick Media Switching”), and a data rate of up to 38.4 Gbit / s. In addition, Samsung has installed a DisplayPort 1.4, a headphone output, and a USB hub with two USB 2.0 ports. Practical in this context: The Neo G9 supports “Auto Source Switch +.” If you plug in a new video cable, the device automatically switches to this image source.
Not so nice: This time also, Samsung saves integrated speakers. A feature that should be standard in current gaming monitors and can be helpful if the battery of your gaming headset is empty again, but you still urgently need sound.
Again great: There is a fold-out headset holder on the back of the stand, which keeps the desk tidy after playing.
This is where all the connection cables connected to the monitor come together and elegantly routes towards the computer.
Let’s stay briefly on the back of the screen, more precisely with the circular funnel in the middle. It again ensures a very futuristic look and is illuminated by numerous LEDs. In contrast to the G9, however, the new CoreSync technology is now used, which no longer only displays simple color samples or color gradients; but adapts the background lighting to the colors displayed on the screen. For example, if you are out and about in the most beautiful weather on a sky-blue sea in the pirate adventure “Sea of Thieves,” the back of the Neo G9 also glows in a very similar shade of blue. The effect itself is great, but it is only visible in a darkened room.
