A little over a week ago, The leading electric automaker Tesla’s app server went down. This lead to a worldwide app outage that left many tesla owners not having the ability to connect with their vehicles. The outage occurred shortly after Tesla rolled out an update to its application that included a feature that Tesla had difficulty implementing, according to Electrek. As automakers transition to cloud services and rely more on smartphone apps, locking out of vehicles could become an ongoing problem. Still, as this situation showed, it’s advisable to have a backup keycard/keyfob on hand if something like this happens. Tesla’s systems are relatively rare to experience outages, but there have been some in the past. The Tesla internal and customer-facing servers went down for several hours in September 2020.
