10 things we learned at Apple’s September 2023 event

Today, at its Wonderlust event, Apple revealed more than the iPhone 15 at the showcase. The event saw a range of announcements, from new smartwatches to USB-C charging. Apple revealed the long-rumored iPhone 15 lineup. The new devices have USB-C and the Dynamic Island, which was previously only available on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.

  1. The new IPhone lineup

Apple included the 14 Pro’s A16 chip in the iPhone 15. The iPhone 15 Plus will have a 6.7-inch display, while the iPhone 15 will be 6.1 inches. Each has a 48MP main camera, “all-day battery life,” and a second-gen ultra wideband chip. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus cost $799 and $899, respectively. The devices will ship on September 22nd after preordering on September 15.

  1. Action Button

iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max replaced the mute switch with a “Action Button”. The Action Button is customizable and can run Shortcuts, launch the camera app, turn on the flashlight, launch Translate, and record a voice memo.

  1. Camera Upgrade

The iPhone 14 Pro Max’s camera rivals the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. It has Apple’s first periscope zoom lens, which gives it 5x optical zoom like a 120mm lens. That, plus portraits at 24mm, 28mm, and 35mm equivalent focal lengths, makes it a very capable camera.

Along with the iPhone 15, Apple announced a USB-C charging case for the AirPods Pro. The phone will also ship with wired EarPods.

Another major Apple Watch 9 feature is its upgraded Apple U2 chipset. The U2 chip enables the high-fidelity “Find My” experience, and the new version has Ultra Wideband technology for three times the range of the older generation.
